I dont know how suddenly my usb dongle driver deleted & will happen one a month on early morning around 3am - 4am. How this could be happen by itself? To make it work back to normal, I must unplug the dongle & plug to different slot. Event log from 'Device Manager' -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> Properties.

Until this past week, everything was fine. Now I have a Logitech wireless mouse & a FitBit dongle that will not function. However, my Logitech Gaming mouse works fine whether on the cord (receiver unplugged, or not) or wireless with the receiver plugged into a different port, portable HD's are working along with a few Thumb Drives I've tried. The items that work, work on any (USB 2.0) port. The ones that don't, don't.

During boot, Windows 7 decides it needs to install drivers and yields a 'Device driver s/w was not installed successfully' error and two 'Failed' messages. One, 'Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller - Failed'. The other, 'Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Root Hub - Failed'.

Here's the rub. When I go to Device Manager, click on either item and tell it to install the latest driver, I get, 'Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date' and a statement telling me which device I was attempting to fix, for each of the two items. I have uninstalled the devices/drivers, rebooted, and end up with the same results.

While I have USB 3 ports on this machine, all devices are, and are connected to, USB 2.0 ports. Not having any USB 3 devices, I've never used those ports. Anyone have a cure for this situation?
